Setting up the Packsmith Shopify app

How to configure your Shopify app settings to get the most out of Packsmith.

Before you start

You’ll need:

  • An active Shopify store.
  • The Packsmith app  installed from the Shopify App Store.

You can complete the setup all at once, or come back to it later – everything lives inside Packsmith under your Apps section in Shopify. For the best experience, we recommend setting up everything in this section.

Step 1: Add dimensions to your products

Packsmith adds a module to each product page in Shopify so you can enter product dimensions. Packsmith uses this to recommend the right packaging for each order.

  1. Go to a product page in Shopify.
  2. Scroll to the Packsmith Dimensions section.
  3. Add the length, width, and height for each product.

Currently, you'll need to add dimensions in metric, but we plan to support imperial in the future.

Step 2: Confirm your return address

Packsmith uses the return address associated with the location assigned to each order.

  1. Head to Shopify then Settings and Locations.
  2. Make sure the address you want displayed as the return address appears as the Default location.

If an order can’t be delivered to your customer and is returned to sender (RTS), this is the address it’ll be returned to.

Step 3: Add a payment method

You’ll need a credit card on file to buy shipping labels, and in case carrier adjustments are incurred. You can add or update your card in two places:

  • In the Packsmith app under Settings then Payment methods.
  • Anytime in the Packsmith Shopify integration under Billing and payment methods.

Multiple cards can be stored, and you can choose which one to use before purchasing a label.

Step 4: Add your packaging options

Tell us what kind of boxes or mailers you use, and we’ll recommend the best fit for every order. You can save multiple packaging options to be suggested in the app.

  1. Go to the Packaging section in the Packsmith Shopify app.
  2. Add your standard packaging sizes, including dimensions and weight.

Make sure your packaging details are accurate – this helps avoid errors and potential carrier adjustments.

Step 5: Select the carriers you want to use

Packsmith supports a variety of shipping carriers, and you can control which ones show up when buying labels.

  1. Go to the Shipping carriers section.
  2. Check off carriers based on what you want to use.

At the moment, you can’t toggle individual services, like "Ground" vs "Express" – just carriers.

That's it! With the Packsmith Shopify app fully set up, you can come back any time to add or adjust your packaging, monitor your billing activity, and make changes to your preferred carriers.
